Spare yourself and do not stay in this hostel. As a college student, I am generally very flexible with hostel accommodations, and I have stayed in some grungy places that have been completely acceptable. Ottaviano Hostel, however, is inexcusably awful. There were bodily fluid stains on the comforters, the toilets leak every time they flush, the lobby constantly smelled like bad microwaved food, the rooms smelled like smoke, and the entire place felt like a hovel. In addition, the staff was very rude and passive aggressive. When we arrived for a late check-in, even though we had let them know in advance, they were flippant and degrading. Furthermore, the email address they provide doesn't work and only generates sendbacks, which made it impossible to change the reservations since the hostel itself doesn't have a computer and refuses to handle any changes. Although it has a great location next to Vatican City, I would never ever reserve a room at this hostel. I was supposed to stay another night, and I cancelled my reservation because it was so awful.

If you're trying to be as close to the Vatican as possible, I will admit this is a great location. However, the staff is rude, unwelcoming, and disrespectful. The rooms are clean, but the blankets seem to not be as clean... There are only 2 toilets and some of the rooms don't have outlets at all. Location, not quality.

This is a bad and ugly hostel. Is very dirty and smell bad. 2 bathroomm for 40 persons. I don't recomend this hostel.

Close to the Vatican but good luck finding it for the first time. The staff were extremely helpful. There is no plug ins in the rooms, the room hasn't been swept in a few weeks same with the WC. Clean sheets, no towel, feather blankets. Naked woman and half person half horse paintings on the wall. Lockers are handy. 2 WC and 3 showers. Not a tidy place but overall we had an okay time and enjoyed having a key (although the room itself didn't lock).

Its a very nice place to stay in the middle of September - feels almot like home! Very Close to Vatican and Rome old centre, surroundings are also nice and quiet - as for middle of huge city.

Great location, great personal, but maybe something like a living room would be very usefull to socialize a little bit more between the guests...but it's a great place I'll go there again if I can!

Location of this hostel is perfect, across the street from Vatican, in a nice neighbourhood, in a walking distance to all the sights. Staff is young, they speak English very well and are always willing to help. It is a small hostel on a second floor of an older building, but very nice and warm. You will need 5 euros deposit for the key, so you can come inside in any time. My girlfriend and I recomend it.

Really nice place to stay. Across the street from the Vatican city, close to metro. not much of a late night party spot but you can get a better sleep!
