Built using golden teak in 1900, the Vimanmek Palace in Dusit is known as the Cloud Mansion. It can only be visited on a guided tour and there is a strict dress code. Its 81 rooms house silver and ivory treasures, and royal coaches.
The teak palace was originally King Rama V's summer palace at Koh Si Chang until Rama V had the house dismantled and rebuilt in the Dusit Garden. King Rama V lived in Vimanmek for five years, but after he moved out, it became deserted.
The largest residence in Dusit Garden, Vimanmek displays western influences. It has two right-angled wings (each 60 metres long x 20 metres high) and is three-storeys high, apart from the King's apartment, which is octagonal and has four storeys.
