Located in one of the best spots in Rio, The Mango Tree is a newly renovated 1930’s colonial style house in a quiet residential area 1 block from the world famous Ipanema beach, where we offer a relaxing place to sleep, meet other travellers, and sip a chilled caipirinha. At The Mango Tree you will find the comforts of a guest house (sprung mattresses, 100% cotton sheets, towels, a real Brazilian style breakfast) with the warm welcome and atmosphere of a backpacker hostel.

We offer a relaxed and tranquil escape from the frantic pace of Rio de Janeiro, and , while we are on the doorstep of all it's exciting nightlife, our hostel is a quiet place to get a good nights sleep.

It has 13 private rooms (2 triple, 2 twin, 10 with en-suite, all air-conditioned), 30 dorm beds, and all the facilities to make your stay with us the most memorable of your trip.

Start each day by enjoying your breakfast outside in our covered dining area before heading out for a day of sightseeing, adventure sports, or simply lazing around on Ipanema beach, which is only 50 metres away. On returning, why not sit around the garden sipping on capirinhas or fall asleep in a hammock underneath the mango tree. Check your email on our free internet access, enjoy DVD's in the common room, or sit in the lobby and enjoy a game with your friends.

We are a short walk away from the restaurants and bars of Ipanema and Copacabana, including the Garota de Ipanema (Girl From Ipanema) where the famous song was written.

If it is a specific trip you are after such as Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado, hang gliding or a tour of a favela then talk to our helpful English-speaking staff who can provide travel information, book tours and make recommendations.

Note: All New Year and Carnaval reservations are required to be paid in full in advance. We will contact you to arrange this once you have made a reservation.

    The Mango Tree is a charming,secure, clean hostel in a perfect location close to the beach and nightlife. The staff is wonderful-very helpful and friendly. I met some great people who were also guests there. Having never stayed in a hostel before I wasn't crazy about the shared bathrooms, but they were ok. The internet is free and accessible on site. The breakfast was very good with lots of fresh fruit, juice, meats and cheeses. Tracy and Caleb hooked us up with a tour of Rio that was fabulous and very reasonable including hang gliding.

    The Mango Tree is located centrally and only 1min walk to Ipanema beach, main square, shops and restaurants. Staff are great, rooms are spotless, facilities are excellent. Would definitely recommend. We did stay in private en suite room so I cannot comment for those staying in dorms.

    Very good location, just 2 minutes away from the best part of Ipanema beach, the "Posto 9". The breakfast is really delicious and there is also a nice common area. Very recommended!!

    It was a really good hostel. I was just a little desapointed with two members of the staff that were not able to give basic informations for transports.

    This place just opened. It is safe, quiet, clean and well located. The staff is very fiendly and very helpfull. Great place at affordable prices!
