Info & Description

The Building was originally the single Officers Quarters for the Air Force Base in Chatham (Miramichi). One wing of this Officers Quarters houses the Hostel. Here we have 3 rooms with dorms (4 per room in double bunks). We are also in the process of decorating 3 private rooms which should be ready for the summer of 2010. This a Hostel catering to travelers & sports teams. The Dorm Rooms have wooden bunk beds and heavy duty mattresses, a desk with an arm chair. There are fridges and lamps in the room. There is a remote controlled ceiling fan as well as a vanity sink with mirror in the room. The room is very quiet. There is a common area, outdoors there are natural areas with some picnic tables. The garden is 1.3 acres of flowers, lawn fruit trees and berry bushes. Patio and Pool should be ready for the summer 2010. We have a small Conference/Party Room for about 24 people with 4 large round tables. There is a Kitchen and bathrooms nearby.
We are located on the bus route to access the city. We are with easy access to Highway 11 (Bathurst and Moncton, as well as the highway to Frederikton and Grand Falls) We are also located within a few blocks to the Snowmobile trails that go through the countryside. Historic Chatham is just about 20 min walk (to the town centre). Chatham offers a Catholic basillica that is worth a look, very large and grand, and it truly dominates the Town. 'Ben's' hamburger joint is still in operation since the 1920's, it is former Prime-Minister Brian Mulrooney's old haunt. There is the famous 'Kitchen Parties' held in downtown Chatham, here you can experience some of the Maritime way of life with songs and stories of days gone by, all for you to enjoy in an old Kitchen.

Some other things that may be of interest is the rubber Tubbing on 'The River' (great for the hot days). Or spent a hot summer day at the Warf near by and jumping in the cool refreshing Miramichi River. There are some covered Bridges nearby if you want to travel a bit. Or there is 'The Ritchy Warf' (Newcastle area) is worth a stop: do not miss the ice cream there (check out the Pinapple-orange) followed by evening listening and dancing to the local bands outdoors there. Also from this warf you can do a boat cruise on the river and see the vast and varied sights of life on the river. Then back to the hostel for a BBQ or a quiet evening of visiting, or get a group together and try out the famous Fish and Chips followed by an Irish band at O'Donahues Irish Pub in Chatham. A nice evening walk back to the hostel, where good quiet nights sleep is a given.
