Info & Description

Once upon a time there was a very old mill...
Today it is a charming Locanda with a special typical Tuscan Restaurant, completely renovated by Riccardo and Silvia Baracchi, owners too of “Relais & Châteaux Il Falconiere”.
A heaven of tranquillity and elegance, in the middle of the Cortona countryside, a land famous for its culture, cuisine, and great wines.
Locanda del Molino with its romantic rooms, is located in Montanare, on the upper Esse valley, and just few kilometers away from the Etruscan town of Cortona. The environment that surrounds Locanda del Molino is very interesting both for culture and for landscapes.
There are eight guestrooms overlooking the creek, where every guest will experience the relax of sleeping while lulled by the sound of the waterfall.
Each room has been individually decorated and fully furnished by Silvia: it will feature either four poster beds or upholstered frames, antique or country style furniture, yet each room shows its authenticity of the almost lost flavors so characteristic of the Cortona countryside.
“The style of cuisine that I would like to find in a restaurant like at locanda is for me simple and genuine, but never ordinary. Our Locanda offers mainly traditional Cortona’s cuisine and a shot from the past with almost forgotten dishes in the “Daily menu”. Guests can share with us the pleasure of rediscovering our local cuisine matched with great wines.” Silvia

Between cuisine, olive oil, wines and culture
Our cooks Nulvia and Simona teach with such enthusiasm and passion the best dishes of the Tuscan cuisine.
Our Cookery School will increase your natural love for food and provide you with the skills you need to translate this love into beautiful and imaginative cuisine.
Choose the length of your course, from one single lesson to three or six day program which includes sightseeing tours to discover beautiful landscapes, wineries, our culture and traditions. Each course takes a minimum of 2 people allowing for a very “hands-on” approach in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

La Bottega
Once upon a time and old country market where you can test the best ham of the area matched with local wine and maybe buy something very, very good and genuine.
What is it today? A delicatessen shop or the restaurant’s larder? Well, it is both! You can buy the same specialties you would find in our Restaurant: local salami, farmer’s artisanal cheeses, honey, home made jams, olive oil and of course wines, included Astore, Smeriglio and Ardito, the wines of the Baracchi
Winery. You can find also some small curiosity to purchase for your friends.

Baracchi winery
The Baracchi Estate own 20 hectares planted with vineyards. The wines are the purest expression of the concept of terroir. Riccardo strongly desired to continue the family tradition of grape
growing and wine-making, which began in 1860 adding now a modern and high quality character.
The wines are Ardito, Astore, Smeriglio Merlot and Sangiovese. Benedetto and Riccardo will be very happy to take you through our vineyards up to our winery for a guided tour and tasting of our
wines and olive oil, accompanied by salami, bruschetta and local pecorino cheese.
