Right, after reading all the reviews, I was very anxious at the moment of arrival. Shouldn't have been! Either I was lucky, or the guest house has improved. In practice, the reviews are totally unfair! The room (we were given a choice which of the two offered rooms we want) was perfectly clean. The bedclothes had a few holes in them, but were clean and smelled nice. Bathroom was very clean, the water was hot - no issues there. The TV worked well too. Room was bigger than I expected. I didn't feel unsafe at all. 15 minutes walk to the town centre is more than satisfactory. The breakfast was marvellous! The staff were friendly and helpful - lent us the international electric plug (two bolts->three bolts), also nice chatting to the guy who was there in the morning. To sum up, if I ever happen to be in Oxford again, I'm definitely staying in Nanford Guest House!

The worst hotel I ever seen in my life. Very dirty . Smell of room is unbeliveable. Security is very low.

Very dirty hotel. Rooms unhealthy. Hotel not safe

The worst b&b we've ever seen. Nothing like the advert. We left and stayed elsewhere about 2 minutes after we arrived. The owner is rude and the kitchen had dirt everywhere and flies about. Horrible.

We booked for 4 nights but left after 2. It wasn't really clean. The best thing of this stay was the breakfast. Really good. However on the second night there was some problem with the door and there were some guys who couldn't get in for two hours (in the middle of the night). They finally got us out of bed and we opened the door. It turned out the lock was broken (looked like someone tried to destroy it) and it got caught in the door. So you could only open it from the outside. When we came back from breakfast, the lock was totally gone. So this didn't help to feel safe and we left. Also the guy who's there in the afternoons is quite unfriendly.

This is not acceptable !! This guest house is the worst one I ever seen and I have seen a lot. The owner came to open the door as we arrived wearing dirty clothes wear and tear with stains and was not even polite. He just said to come in and go to the first floor, this is your bedroom. Everything in the hall was dirty and dusty. Horrible smell came from the dining room, like mouldy. Then we saw the bedroom and found out that the sheets were clean but with holes and faded. The floor was not even hoovered and we could see crumbs of food, rubbish and plastic packaging. The light in the bedroom was not working properly and one part of the floor was burnt. We went to ask the owner if he could at least hoover the floor but he said "no i have already done it this morning and I'm not gonna do this again". After few demands he still refused to do it and neither to see how damaged and dirty the floor was. We asked him to get our money back but he refused again so we moved out and tried to find another place and all the people we saw after were laughing and told us that Nanford guest house is known as the worst guest house in the whole United Kingdom and that he had an amazing number of complains against him. So people, find another place, walk further and you'll find some nice places compared to this lousy Nanford. There is few other guest houses for the same price and much more better. Good luck !

    It was nice hostel.

  14. Jon From Spain On August 2, 2009

Far away from the centre (15 minutes walk). Clean, but old beds. The rooms are quite big with double sized beds (more like hotel than hostel). Apart from he bed and breakfast nothing else is offered; eventhough, for this price it's a good place. Breakfast is good!

  15. Efren From Spain On April 11, 2009

Quite near to the center, but for the owner, 60 euros its the same as 60 pounds.. so the room cost us more than usual.. never happen before.. worst staff ever

To be honest after i read all the comments on the house on the net I was expecting hell on earth. Thankfully, it was nothing like what people mentioned, or at least we (me and my 2 friends)were lucky. The bathroom was horrendous though, didn't use it for 2 days. Otherwise it was acceptable for a night's stay, no more than 2. The staff was nice.

The room was sufficiently clean, but could have been better vacuumed and there was something on the wall. The staff was not particularly interactive or communicative, but treated us well. It has a nice location within easy walking distance of downtown Oxford. Altogether a good value for its price.

Charming, low cost B&B. The staff were all quite helpful and added value to my stay. Breakfast was delicious, and there was plenty of it. The location was excellent; very close to town. The room was clean, comfy and quiet. I'd HIGHLY recommend this establishment. Chas
