Green Tortoise Backpacker's Guesthouse is conveniently located at First Ave. and Pike Street, right around the famous Pike Place Market.

The hostel, with a view of the Puget Sound and the Market, boasts of 30 bunk rooms in an elegantly restored which once served as short-term housing for loggers, dock workers, and Miners who came to Seattle in the early 20th century.

The beautiful historical building has plenty of modern charms too: European style bath and shower rooms are brand new, as are the kitchen and common areas. It's within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, The Pike Place Market, The Space Needle, The Experience Music Project, Pioneer Square, and more. Plus, we have….

The Green Tortoise's accommodating staff can arrange tours to explore the city or make suggestions for independent travel. An extensive information board lists what to see and do and how to get around.

Pike Place Market is famous for fish-throwing, fresh local produce, bakeries, flower shops, cafes, the original Starbucks location, and dozens of ethnic food stalls and restaurants. This colorful neighborhood is also one of the city's safest, and our hostel is a close walk to such famous landmarks as Seattle Center (where the Space Needle and the Experience Music Project *AKA the Jimmy Hendrix museum * are located), Pioneer Square, the Waterfront, the Washington State Ferries to nearby communities, Capitol Hill, and Queen Anne.

Coming to town for a live music show? Come check us out -- we're located pretty much in the heart of the live music scene with venues like the Crocodile Cafe, the Showbox Theater, the Paramount Theater, and the Moore Theater all just blocks away from us.

    The location of this hostel cannot be beat. It's so conveniently located to major attractions (across the street from Pike Place Market, and easy tram ride to the Space Needle, EMP museum, Chihuly Gardens, etc.) and convenience (next door to Target). The staff was friendly and pretty helpful. Cleanliness was better than I expected for a hostel (the hostel was cleaned once a day), and most of my rating for cleanliness has to do with the actions of fellow guests. I would stay there again.

    Great value for your money, especially since they serve breakfast every morning. The location is great, but I didn't like that you can't park your car in front to unload the bags (I had a few). I had to park in the Target parking for that. And a lot of stairs to haul my luggage up. The room was very clean. You could see staff did everything to keep the place clean. I didn't like the hardness of the bed. I prefer softer ones.

    Location is perfect & Clean & staffs are kind, but not too much. and as per changed their new rule, breakfast is so small, even no bread. Shower room is enough, but i couldn't close my room window.. But location & room rate is great :)

    This was my first experience in a hostel and it was amazing. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the location couldn't be better. Although shared on a hallway, the bathrooms are single occupant (and upgraded with a glass shower). I loved everything about my experience. Will DEFINITELY recommend/stay again!
