The Finnish Museum of Photography at Ruoholahti presents the history of the genre from the mid-19th century to the present day. It features works by photographers such as Anders Serrano, Diane Arbus and Cindy Sherman, as well as Finnish photographers.

The permanent exhibition presents a comprehensive cross-section of Finnish photography and its place in photographic history.

In addition, the museum maintains collections of photographic prints, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, ferrotypes, negatives and equipment, as well as coordinating important research on photography. In its role as an intermediary between photography and the public, the museum aims to bring the visual image to a wider and more involved audience, promoting Finnish photography abroad and playing a central role in bringing the works of foreign photographers to Finland.
