    Strasbourg:

One of the three powerhouses of European decision-making is in Strasbourg, the French city that rubs shoulders geographically and culturally with Germany. A visit to the striking European Parliament building provides visitors with a fascinating insight into the political world.

Discover where the bureaucracy begins in a tour of this uniquely designed Euro HQ. The most prominent feature is the wing-shaped glass structure that rises out of the top of the main debating chamber's 750-seater Hemicycle, forming a sweeping modern sand dune effect. Another significant part of the complex is a 60-metre tower with 17 levels and 1133 offices used for a mixture of work and play.

The length of the tour and how easy it is to procure a place on one is determined by whether or not the parliament is in session. When it is, the tour lasts an extra hour as visitors can witness delegates debating the weighty issues of the day. A visit to the European Parliament can also be combined with a visit to the neighbouring Palace of Human Rights and the European Council.

    Advance reservation is essential.
