Tanah Lot is a beautiful rock formation on the west coast and a popular tourist spot. Perched on the rocks is the temple Pura Tanah Lot, a late-15th-century sea temple set up by Javanese priest Nirartha.

"Tanah Lot" means "land in the middle of the sea". The temple is only accessible at low tide when the island's caves, guarded by poisonous snakes, are exposed. Sunset is a popular time to visit and see the temple framed in gold. Arrive early to get a good spot.
