A former Christian church built by the Romans in the 4th century AD, St George Rotunda is considered to be the oldest building in Sofia. It is now used as a museum and boasts recently discovered 12th-14th-century frescoes.
Three layers of frescoes have been found, the earliest dating back to the 10th century. A magnificent fresco of 22 prophets crowns the dome.
