    Santiago:

Inspired by Neopolitan palaces, the Palacio La Moneda is the seat of the Chilean President. Converted into the seat of power in 1845, the building and its imposing Neoclassical facade were originally designed to be a colonial mint.

Its place in history was assured when Salvador Allende was killed inside when the palace was bombed in 1973 during Agusto Pinochet's military coup d'état.

Guided tours of La Moneda Palace are absolutely free. To make a tour reservation, send a request form at least 15 days in advance to the Administrative Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
