    Boston:

One of the more important buildings on Boston's Freedom Trail, the Old North Church was the place where lanterns were hung to signal to Paul Revere that the British were coming, thus kicking off the American War of Independence.

Built in 1723 as an Anglican church in a Georgian style, inspired by Sir Christopher Wren, it is still a working Episcopal church today. Its real fame, however, comes from the aforementioned lanterns. Hung by the church sexton, they told Paul Revere to start his famous ride through the Boston night to warn the militia of the impending British invasion. The church offers Sunday religious services, private tours and a storytelling Paul Revere on Thursdays and Fridays.
