    Canberra:

Opened in 1982, Canberra's National Gallery of Australia is unusual because, unlike the country's other state galleries, it was not founded under British colonial rule. In its short lifespan it has amassed an impressive A$3 billion collection of more than 100,000 works.

The permanent collection covers Australian art, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art, Asian art and International art. Occasional temporary exhibitions ensure that there is something new to see however many times you visit.
