The Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King was assassinated, forms part of the National Civil Rights Museum. Exhibits at this South Main museum detail the 1960s battle for equality, King's life and death, and the ongoing fight for civil rights.

The museum brings to life the most significant moments of civil and human rights struggles and victories, and also offers research facilities and educational programmes.

Another recent addition to the exhibition programme is Exploring Legacy, which focuses on more recent struggles and achievements of the Civil Rights Movement, following King's assassination, as well as exploring in greater depth the fateful day on 4 April 1968 at the Lorraine Motel.
