    Santiago:

One of the few remaining examples of 16th-century architecture in Chile, the Museum of San Francisco in Santiago was declared a national monument in 1951. Find a spectacular array of religious paintings and sacred objects crafted in silver and gold.

The church and the convent date back to 1572. The land where they stand was originally donated to Conquistador Don Pedro de Valdivia, who built the church, devoting a significant part to his patron saint la Virgen del Socorro. In 1554, the Franciscan order built a convent next to the church.
