The likes of Lichtenstein and Warhol share the walls with German artists including Beuys and Ruthenbeck at the Museum of Modern Art. Dubbed the 'slice of cake', due to its triangular shape, this central museum offers leading temporary exhibitions too.

Opened in 1991 and built by the Viennese architect Hans Hollein, the museum has a post-modernist design. The permanent collection features European and American artworks from the 1960s to the present. Many of the works on display originally formed part of Darmstadt industrialist Karl Ströher's collection.
