SFMOMA is housed in a superb building designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, opened to much enthusiasm in 1995. Its four floors of galleries overlook the Yerba Buena Gardens. It has a permanent collection of over 15,000 works, including 4700 paintings, sculptures and works on paper, 9000 photographs and a growing collection of media art by artists such as Jackson Pollock and Ansel Adams.
