Eight thousand years' worth of masterpieces fill the Museum of Fine Arts in the Fenway neighbourhood. Collections range from Egyptian sculpture to contemporary photography, with especially notable Impressionist holdings. Construction of a new American Wing is underway.
The museum's particular forte is 19th-century fine art - the museum possesses the superb John Singer Sargent The Daughters of Edward D Boit (1882) as well as Renoir's hymn to the transient joy of young love, Dance at Bougival (1883), just one of many superb Impressionist paintings in the museum's collection.
Other highlights include the Asian collections and the rooms of early American furniture.
