Part of downtown's Place des Arts complex, the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art shows highlights from its collection of post-1939 works and temporary exhibitions of international artists. Look for paintings by Québécois artists such as Jean-Paul Riopelle and Paul-Émile Borduas.
Montreal's Museum of Contemporary Art is the only institution in Canada devoted exclusively to contemporary art and is housed in a suitably modern building. Four galleries feature painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, installation art and video. Four more galleries are used for the museum's full programme of temporary exhibitions.
