Melbourne Museum focuses on Victoria's natural environment and cultural history. Eight galleries of permanent and temporary exhibitions include a living rainforest and Aboriginal cultural centre. Pride of place goes to racehorse Phar Lap and Evolution Gallery's dinosaur and whale skeletons.
Likened to a modern airport, this new building will take you both back in time and give you a glimpse into the future. Said to be the largest museum complex in the southern hemisphere, the Melbourne Museum is housed on six floors, three of which are built underground. New technologies are used to bring the learning experience alive and there is a children's museum aimed at three to eight year olds.
