Ancient history and world cultures are explored in the university-owned Manchester Museum's galleries in the city centre. Displays include dinosaurs, Egyptology and Mediterranean archaeology. Discover monitor lizards and Amazonian habitats in the award-winning Vivarium.
As part of extensive redevelopment work to the tune of £20 million, a steel-and-glass extension was added to the original Victorian Gothic museum and opened in 2003, offering improved access to the galleries. The building now has its own café and a large museum shop in the new entrance area.
