Cherished as a natural haven at the edge of Moscow since at least the 13th century, Kolomenskoe is packed full of superb historical buildings. The oldest is the 16th-century Church of the Ascension (recognised by UNESCO in 1994).
Many wooden buildings have been relocated to the park to form a veritable architectural history of Russia, but for Muscovites it is the city's summer sun trap - a perfect park in which to take a stroll or soak up the sun.
