Kings Park & Botanic Gardens is a wonderful area to discover Western Australia's wildflowers and colourful birds. Take in excellent views of Perth's skyline from the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, a glass bridge perched at treetop level.
The park's history dates back to the early 1870s, when 175 hectares of land on Mount Eliza were claimed as a public park by Commissioner for Lands. In 1900 Kings Park & Botanic Gardens were declared an A class reserve.
A great way to explore the area is to hire a bicycle. Alternatively, join one of the free guided walks of Kings Park which depart daily from Fraser Avenue. Green-fingered gardening fanatics may want to follow the Botanic Garden Discovery Walk to learn more about the 2000 species that fill the 17-hectare Western Australia Botanic Garden.
