The experience is divided into chronological sections exploring the Roman, medieval and modern periods, with regular special exhibitions concentrating on specific periods of the area's varied and fascinating past. Permanent highlights include a miniature model of the old city centre in the foyer, which depicts urban Frankfurt before its destruction during the Second World War.
