    Darwin:

The beautiful George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens are home to exotic collections of rainforest palms, African baobabs and tropical orchids, as well as plenty of native Top End species. Non-flora features include a waterfall, pond and the restored Wesleyan Church.

The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens were opened in 1886 when the town of Darwin was just 16 years old, with the aim of experimenting with plants of economic importance. Originally called the Darwin Botanic Gardens, the name of George Brown was added following his death in 2002. Foreman and later curator of the gardens from 1969 until 1990, Brown was elected mayor in 1992 and remained in the position until his death.
