    Mumbai:

Mumbai's most striking landmark, the Gateway of India in coastal Colaba is a turreted basalt stone arch with intricate latticework. Originally built for King George V's visit in 1911, it became a symbolic farewell to the Raj in 1947.

The Gateway of India is the starting point for most tourists who want to explore the city.

The last of the British ships that set sail for England after the end of the Raj left from the Gateway. Behind the arch, there are steps leading down to the water where you can hire a motor launch for a short cruise around Mumbai's natural harbour.
