When people think of the classic New Orleans district, it is of the French Quarter that they are thinking. There are more bars, clubs, shops and restaurants here than you could work through in several visits.
Laid out in French and Spanish colonial times in the 18th century, the French Quarter is a mixed residential/commercial area that still retains a very distinctive feel, unlike many areas which attract similar numbers of tourists.
