The Experience Music Project in Frank Gehry's aluminium Downtown building contains over 80,000 music-related artefacts. Fans flock to see Kurt Cobain's scrawled lyrics or Janis Joplin's bell-bottom trousers. The Hendrix Gallery is filled with objects, including fragments of a smashed guitar.
Inspired by Jimi Hendrix, the Experience Music Project in Seattle is dedicated to the worlds of rock 'n' roll, pop, soul, funk, gospel, blues, hip-hop, country and, of course, home-grown grunge. The artefacts and memorabilia range from Bo Diddley's guitar to Bob Dylan's harmonica.
The Hendrix Gallery is filled with everything from the guitarist's felt hat to a kimono worn at Newport Pop Festival. Other rock stars featured include Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Dr Dre, Tupac and even Grandmaster Flash's turntables.
