    Seville:

Seville Cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, boasting five naves, a huge carved altar, numerous Renaissance paintings and Christopher Columbus' tomb. Climb the 95-metre high Giralda (belfry) for the best views of the city.

Back when southern Spain was governed by Moors, the great Almohad Mosque stood where the cathedral looms today. The mosque was demolished in 1402 and the cathedral was built in its place, using the same rectangular base and converting the Islamic minaret into the belfry.

Inside, see the exquisite Sacristía Mayor and the lavish monument and tomb of Christopher Columbus. The elaborate dome of the Sala Capitular is also worth a look and today is something of a shrine to the late Renaissance painter Murillo - renowned for his depictions of Spanish street life.
