Boyana Church in Sofia is one of the few perfectly preserved monuments of east European medieval art. Since 1979 it has occupied number 42 on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites, owing its world fame to the frescoes from 1259.
The site consists of three buildings that were constructed in three stages - in the late 10th and early 11th, the mid-13th, and the mid-19th centuries.
