    Birmingham:

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses add a splash of floral colour to the city. Spanning 15 acres, the grounds sport a bandstand, an art gallery and four Victorian glasshouses, which shelter exotic plants in conditioned climates.

Each glasshouse recreates a different environment: visitors can get hot and humid around sugar canes and cocoa plants in the Tropical House or see living stones and spiky cacti in the Arid Conservatory. The gardens were designed by top horticultural planner J C Loudon back in 1832 and have been maintained impeccably.
