    Sydney:

Australia's most famous beach has a long curved stretch of sand and impressive waves. Bondi Beach lifeguards patrol the shark-netted beach daily and there are pools for calmer swimming. Cliff-top walks to neighbouring Tamarama and Bronte beaches are highly recommended.

The preserve of sunseekers and funseekers, with the surfing fraternity competing for space with the swimming fraternity, Bondi, being the closest main beach to Sydney city centre, is a popular summer destination. There are many excellent cafés, seafood restaurants, bars and clubs along the seafront and towards Bondi Junction.

Roughly a kilometre long, the beach is enclosed at the north and south by headlands. At the southern headland a spectacular coastal walk winds past a number of smaller coves before reaching Coogee, a favourite spot for swimmers and body-boarders. The Beach Markets are open every Sunday and offer a wide array of local designs.

Please note lifeguard hours vary according to season.
