    Baltimore:

America's first cathedral, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known simply as the Baltimore Basilica, was the first major religious building built in the U.S. after the adoption of the Constitution.

Built between 1806 and 1821, the Basilica is a National Historic Landmark and National Shrine, and is one of the most important Catholic churches in the country. The Basilica was closed for a major restoration between 2004-2006, reopening in time for its bicentennial.

Tours of the building are available daily at 9am, 11am and 1pm and reservations are required for groups of 10 or more.
