Christchurch Art Gallery is home to one of New Zealand's most important public art collections, with works by both international and local Canterbury artists. The gallery's striking curvy glass structure was designed by the Buchan Group after an international competition.
The gallery's Maori name, Te Puna o Waiwhetu, honours the well on the gallery's site, which flows into the city's Avon River, with Waiwhetu also meaning "water in which stars are reflected."
