Late Gothic tombstones and Renaissance frescoes have survived in this red-brick cathedral in Frankfurt's historic centre. In spring and summer climb the Kaiserdom's 324 stairs and enjoy the view, or visit on a Sunday for organ music and special services.
Located in the city's Altstadt, or Old Town, the Kaiserdom is close to the Paulskirche church, the Römer square and Goethe's House. It has been rebuilt several times, including after a devastating fire in 1867 and the Second World War.
A frieze of St Bartholemew, the choir stalls and the Maria-Schlaf-Altar altar (1434-1438) have survived from the original interior.
