Dancers sway to tango and artists display their work along Caminito, the open-air street museum in La Boca, Buenos Aires' old port district. Nineteenth-century Italian immigrants brightened Caminito's humble houses with colourful boat paints. Avoid the crowds by visiting during the week.
The working class district of La Boca is the old port area on the edge of the river Riachuelo. In the late 19th century, it became home to many Italian immigrants who built elevated housing blocks to protect themselves from the flooding. Caminito was officially declared a pedestrian museum in 1959.
