Great place, quiet and clean rooms, helpful staff, 15 minutes from city centre by tram and less than an hour to walk. Only bad point is very steep stairs and no elevator for the disabled.
We loved the room, even though it took 64 stairs to get to it. Angel was very helpful. He stayed up until after midnight to let us in after at 10:30 flight from Spain, carried our suitcases up the endless stairs and was there for us whenever we needed him. Due to the stairs I don't think we would stay there again, but we'd miss Angel.
We received a room with a view to the river but after a few minutes the landlord told us that an even better room with balcony freed up, so we took that one. It didn't have an own bathroom, we used the shared one, which was big, comfortable and clean, just like at home. Sometimes we had to wait for the bathroom, but then we could also use the one at the 2nd floor. The landlord?/owner? was really helpful, he made us feel as valued customers. Be prepared, the stairs are really narrow but it's typical for these kind of dutch houses. It is located in the edge of the city center, close to the Albert Cuyp Market and a few tram stops from the Royal Palace. The room didn't have an air condition though (as most of the dutch houses don't) and the room was really hot when the temperature outside was above 30 degrees.
So I arrived at the Amstel river view for a 4 night city break. To be greeted by the steepest stairs I've ever seen. - if you're not good with walking up staircases (elderly) then this place is not for you! The owner is very friendly and has obviously tried to decorate the place but the paint is cracked on the walls and it just looked a bit half done. ALL the rooms on each floor have one toilet and a shower room between them. When booking I was led to believe I had an en suite room. There is no breakfast included although some sites may say bed & breakfast. The twin single room I was in was tiny for two people to stay in and contrary to the 'info' part about the hotel rooms- we did not have a river view..this was extremely disappointing as we instead looked into peoples back yards. Also if you book at this hotel you will need to take the tram to get into the city center everyday which takes about 15 mins. It is a nice area but quite quiet and there arent any restaurants or bars around the corner. I wouldn't suggest staying here if you're going to be in the center a lot. Also when I arrived the owner had me and my partner pay 'tourist tax' which we feel was absurd considering friends of ours were paying less than us for a more central, perfectly nice hotel with breakfast included.

The place is excellent!the best priced hostel around.its also close to the center.the rooms are big with excellent telly and the landlord is very friendly and helpful too. i will defenitly return to this place.THANKS!!!

This guesthouse tops my list of the best budget places I've stayed in in Europe. Everything is well-thought of--from the gorgeous interiors with Oriental touch to the helpful amenities around. Not to mention the simply stunning view of the river! The whole experience is just priceless.
1. Early check-in is accepted even at 0800. 2. Peaceful surroundings. 3. Restaurants are nearby for dinner.
Amazing nice place to stay at. Unfortunately it's a little bit out of town (20 min walk or 2,60 € /person with the tram (going every 10 minutes)
Everything was excellent! Very clean and cosy. One will find everything you want in the apartment. Benjamin is very helpfull.It's not situated in the mere centre, but that doesn't really matter because the place is wonderfull.
The hotel was perfect and rooms were beautiful! the only thing, they didnt have our room and we spend 3 hours in Amsterdam looking for another hotel. We were expecting the receptionist to give us a solution. We got the room for the next day. Hope to trust the web sites for bookings again
It's definitely a very good place to stay for a couple of days. The view from windows is charming. The kitchen is well equipped - we were making our won meals and dinners, instead of expensive restaurants. Rooms are clean an nice. If I visit Amsterdam once again I will probably chose Amstel. It was a very pleasant stay.
The place is very clean, we have our kitchen that is very good, the localisation is very nice, not very far from the center. The room is vvery confortable,good looking. All is clean! I really recommend this bed and coffee. PS: The coffee is also good!
Very good value for money, for those with legs able to manage the typically steep and high stairs. Helpful and friendly staff. Sanitation spotless and modern. Surprise: a complete kitchen. Broad view over Amstel river.
Amazing steep stairs in the Amsterdam houses. Nice calm place with kitchen. In the mornings, perhaps 7 people are a little too many for one toilette.
We had a pleasant stay :-)
