After a 2,860 km journey and before reaching the Black Sea, the Danube created a beautiful area called the Danube delta. This amazing 'water-world' consists of the three main branches of the river, called Chilia, Sulina and St. George, and many smaller branches, canals, swamps, reeds, forests and dunes. It is still extremely rich in fish, game and birds.Along Sulina, the central branch of the river, and 40 km from the city of Tulcea, the 'gate' to the delta, there is a fishing village called Gorgova. Here, at 22 miles from the sea, a rustic estate is expecting its guests. The two-star guesthouse accommodates 12 persons and it has all commodities.
How To Get There
We will arrange in advance a date and time to meet you in Tulcea in the car park of the Delta Hotel. You can get to Tulcea by car by various routes, depending on which part of Hungary you are coming from.

The distance between Budapest and Tulcea is, depending on the route, about 1,100 km. It takes around 16-18 hours to drive.
Public safety and the condition of the roads have improved lately in Romania. Since the 1989 revolution the major roads have been repaired, including the ones along the above routes. They are almost at a European standard. In Romania the speed limit outside town is 90 km/h and in town is 50 km/h. It is advised to adhere to this as the fines can be high. Petrol, lead-free petrol and diesel are sold in all petrol stations. The price is around 0.75 Euro (petrol) and 0.54 Euro (diesel) per litre. At the petrol stations you can only pay with Lei, the Romanian currency. Therefore you should exchange sufficient money at the border to cover the fuel and other expenses. You can exchange USD or Euro at any bank or Exchange Office in Romania.
Beware! You must not exchange money on the black market because there is always a risk that you will be ripped off or mugged, spoiling the fun of your trip. You can also exchange For int, the Hungarian currency, but only at the banks or Exchange Offices in areas populated by Hungarians. Hungarian is generally spoken in almost every town between the Hungarian border and Brasov. The Embassies are in Bucharest but you may find your Consulate in another big city, too. If you have any problems, like an accident or theft, go to the nearest police station (Politia) or call the tour operator, Szabo Laszlo. Bring a mobile phone if you can, as there is reception throughout Romania, including in the delta. There are hotels, motels, Bed & Breakfasts in every town, should you need a rest. The price of a double room is between 15 and 20 Euro. They may have a guarded car park. It is worth driving through Romania in daylight when you can enjoy the sight of the beautiful landscape and the old traditional towns. The tour operator will be expecting you at the pre-arranged date and time in Tulcea. From here we will drive to the guesthouse in an hour and a half. If it rains, we will take the boat to Gorgova, which takes 2 hours. Then we would leave the cars in a guarded car park, which costs 1 Euro per day.
