I had a pleasant stay at Utopia this summer. One bed, toilet and a shower. Because of the short distance to centrum,i discovered places quite fast. It was cheap and the staff vas very helpful. Thank you very much Utopia. Best regards Bjoern (Norway)

The price is too high and the place sucks. It is very dirty and there is no safty. If you compare the price, you will find out that it is even more expensive than a 4 star hotel. My advice: do not sleep here

  5. ruby From Belgium On April 14, 2010

Friendly staff, good location. I have a lot of fun in this hostel. especially the coffe shop in the down stairs

  6. Denise From Germany On April 13, 2010

The staff was really friendly, the room was clean, as well as the bed sheets and towels. The toilet, which was not in our room and therefore used by several people, got a little "messy" sometimes, but you cannot blame the hostel for people who do not know how to behave or have any sense of hygiene whatsoever. It was cleaned every day, maybe even several times, as was the sink in our room. I would recommend bringing flip flops for the shower, but then again I would recommend that for any hostel (or swimming pool), too. The only 2 things that really bothered me were 1) One of the closets couldn't be locked, but that was only a minor issue because I could easily fit my stuff in my friend's closet and 2) The heater could not be turned off, so we had to leave the windows open, which was really loud. But I am sure this is not a long-term problem and will be fixed soon. Just to refer to the things other people said: I did not see a single mouse / rat! As I said it was really clean, which actually surprised me. For this price I expected things to be a lot worse. I would definitely recommend this hostel and will probably stay there again =)

I would say the location is perfect. 3 mins walk to Dam Square, 2 tram stop from Central Train Station. The Staff is very friendly, and helpful. This is a very good budget-value hostel. I personally like to go around the city anytime, and this hotel i don't need to worry if I have to go back hotel early in case no transportation - because it is right in the center....

  8. Dan From Romania On February 15, 2010

The location is great! It's right in the heart of the city and ridiculously close to the red light district.

  9. Martin From Bulgaria On December 10, 2009

the dirtiest toilet in the Netherlands; at least - up to my experience. Otherwise - it was all just perfect for the price!

great hostel if you are just looking for a bed in amsterdam centrum

  11. Nicholas From England On September 7, 2009

This place was nowhere near as bad as some reviews made out before we travelled. The shower was clean, the staff helpful and our room-mates pleasant. The location is ideal as you are a stones throw away from Dam Square. As far as hostels go this one was fine. Watch out for steep staircase though!

  12. anna-marlene From Sweden On July 20, 2009

verry dirty and many things where broken. The bed seemed like it had never been cleaned

  13. Wilmar From Colombia On May 5, 2009

At the beginning I was so happy I could find a place to stay in such a short notice (20 days). But the truth is, the place is VERY dirty. These guys haven’t cleaned up the showers for YEARS and the toilets were also disgusting. I guess, there’s no need to say more :(

  14. PAUL From Scotland On March 31, 2009

Stayed for five days 3 of us in a prison cell. Didn't see a cleaner the whole time.Toilet Facilities filthy , severe lack of loo roll.coffee shop it's only saving grace.

  15. Rahel From Switzerland On March 28, 2009

Its nice to have a coffeshop right next door but if the people in your room arrive at 4 at night and smoke a joint while youre sleeping its not that nice.

  16. santiago From Spain On March 10, 2009

No words to descrive it!!! The WORST hotel i´ve never seen, even in Morocco or South-America.Mice,dirty,very disgusting staff.NEVER go there

  17. Mika From Denmark On August 24, 2008

Very cozy room, but you can hear everything in your neighbours room. We thought someone was breaking into our room in the night. The fire alarm went off. We found dirty underwear in our room. Need a remote control for TV. Otherwise nice and friendly staff, a bit stoned:-) Shower smells of piss! Change the shower curtain please, its disgusting! Nice little coffee shop, we didn't try the breakfast because we wanted our daily bagel with samon every morning and fresh juice from the juice bar across the street. mmmmmm!!! We had a GREAT time in Amsterdam!!!!

  18. Mauro From Italy On August 24, 2008

Get away right now!!! Mice in the rooms! A real horror! AAAAHHHRG!!! For the same price much better places to stay.

  19. Dominik From Germany On August 18, 2008

If If you like hair in your sink, hair under your pillow, hair in your shower, dirt everywhere and mice in your room than this will be the perfect place to stay for you. That was the worst hotel i have ever been to.

  20. Kate From England On August 14, 2008

The light didnt work in our room, the toilet smelt like a portaloo and there was mention of not bringing food into the room incase it attracted mice! But the location was good, near central station.
