Rio de Janeiro's cathedral, the Catedral de São Sebastião, is like no other. Located in the heart of the city's financial district, it was designed by architect Edgar de Oliveira da Fonseca in a cone shape/pyramid.
The cathedral towers 96 metres high, the portal decorated in 48 low-relief bronze friezes with a theme of faith. Inside there are floor-to-ceiling windows on four cardinal points, allowing light to filter through the stained glass to create a mystical ambience.
The interior was project-managed by Father Paulo Lachen Maier, who also redesigned the new sacristy and baptismal font. The sculptures are by Humberto Cozzi, and the two candelabras behind the sacristy by Nicola Zanotto.
