Info & Description

Until 1300 Venice was the most important merchant port in Europe.
There were regular sailings from Venice to just about everywhere, especially for the ports of northern Europe and the Black Sea.
The 'Albergarie' grew up in order to accommodate the travellers to and from Venice's shores, amongst them the hotel then known as the 'Albergaria Al Gallo'.
A famous travel guide of 1495 recorded the Al Gallo as one of the best hotels in Venice at that time. It was here that Ambassadors, Nobles and the Courtiers to the King would stay, along with Heads of Government, when visiting the Republic of Venice and also was: Pilgrims and Franciscans that go to Basilica of Frari’s .
Geographically speaking, Venice immediately evokes the image of a small cosmos bathed in magic sounds, dreamlike colours, strong tastes, the smell of salt, aromatic perfumes that are an intrinsic part of the tissue of life suspended between land and sky. Sandbanks and sea in transparency evoking a time still anchored to the voices of the past but still continuing to open itself up towards tomorrow.

Seen from above, it looks like a network of tiny islands, criss-crossed by canals, strengthened by fondamenta and dotted with bridges and small streets which lead to squares adorned with finely worked well heads surrounded by palaces with majestic facades embroidered with rich gothic marble.

A city where palaces, houses, gardens are the horizon of the city from which they rise-capitals, oratories, churches, basilicas, cathedrals and bell-towers which trace the path of God.

Great little guesthouse 5 minutes walk from Campo San Margherita and St. Toma Vaporetto stop. Very handy to the main bus stop at Piazzale Roma also. We initially had trouble finding it however as there are 10+ "Calle del Forno" streets in Venice and hostelworld had marked it incorrectly on the map. Apart from this i'd recommend it to friends and family. It's in a nice area, and quiet (from loud noises) at night.

I would advise this hotel: it is clean, pretty and well situated (In Venise, it is convenient to be close to the train station). Otherwise, the bed was not comfortable and we could hear the people of the other room. I have however seen worst for a one star hotel.

Pino, the owner, was very welcoming and made our stay a pleasant one. The location wasn't touristy (a positive thing for us) and we really enjoyed the selection of restaurants, bars, and cafes around the hotel. After traveling throughout Italy, Venice was by far our favorite destination. If we go back, we would definately stay at Al Gallo again.
