    Oslo:

The Ski Museum provides visitors with all they could possibly need to know about the history of skiing, as well as a hilltop restaurant, the Holmenkollen ski jump, the Tryvann Tower (for climbing) and an awesome 360-degree-view of Oslo.

This is the oldest ski museum in the world, situated inside the actual fundaments of the Holmenkollen ski jump. Its exhibits cover the entire known history of skiing, from 4000-year-old rock carvings depicting little prehistoric stick-men with skis on their feet to the most advanced, high-tech modern armaments of the connoisseur.

The primeval equipment used by Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen is juxtaposed to great effect with day-glo fibreglass competition snowboards. Other exhibitions include a series of panels on the links between the Norwegian Royal family and the history of skiing, and panels describing various important events, such as the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo and the 1994 event in Lillehammer.

The museum was founded in 1923 by Skiforeningen, the ski association, which itself dates back to the late-19th century. Today it is part of the Holmenkollen Tourist and Cultural centre, where you can also experience high-tech ski simulators and buy ski memorabilia from the two souvenir shops.
