Hampstead Heath is a vast haven of green fields dotted with buttercups, beech and oak woodlands and three willow-lined ponds to swim in. There is a stately home at its heart, Kenwood House, where popular summer concerts take place.
The Heath is sandwiched between Kentish Town, Highgate, South End Green and Hampstead, a network of smart residential areas home to media types, intellectuals, politicians and a well-manicured handful of ladies-who-lunch. All are prone to heading for the Heath on a Sunday afternoon, or picnicking on a summer day.
