In Kolonaki, the Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art is revered for its collection of elegant marble figurines. Surprisingly contemporary in style, these enigmatic pieces were placed in burial chambers in the Cycladic islands over 4,000 years ago.
The elegant figurines, mostly female with their arms folded over their waists, appeal to modern aesthetic tastes and are presented in displays illustrating Cycladic life at the time.
The museum also houses a collection of Greek art from the Bronze Age to Roman periods including pottery, terracotta figurines, sculpture, metal and glassware and jewellery, along with temporary exhibitions, often dedicated to contemporary artists.
