CaixaForum by Plaça Espanya square, is one of Barcelona's most exciting contemporary art spaces. Housed in an old modernista textile factory with a stylish modern walkway, courtyard and entrance, the gallery's three exhibition spaces display an eclectic programme of shows.

The gallery opened in 2002 in the Casaramona (textile factory), designed by Puig i Cadalfach and used as police barracks in the 1930s. The vibrant edifice features a red brick facade and singular turret, to which the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki made his additions. Inside an elevator whisks you up to three exhibition spaces, connected by exterior halls. These are changing constantly, meaning that three, often very diverse, shows can be viewed at the same time. There is an excellent bookshop in the foyer.
