The Belém Cultural Centre is a relatively modern addition to historic Belém, but now dominates the city's contemporary music, dance and theatre scenes. Host to local and international artists and festivals, there is also a bar with regular live music.

This is a private cultural centre which was set up in 1991 and includes the Exhibition Centre, the Theatre Centre and the Meeting Centre.

The Exhibition Centre contains several galleries and enough space to cater for various art exhibitions, including architecture, photography and design. The Theatre Centre contains two auditoria, with capacities of 1500 and 400 respectively, hosting ballet, opera, theatre, cinema and conferences. The Meeting Centre hosts all kinds of things including educational activities for schools and also contains a documentation centre.
