The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and one of the rare Western European cities that face the ocean and uses water as an element that defines the city. Lisbon enchants travelers with its white bleached limestone buildings, intimate alleyways, and an easy going charm that makes it a popular year round destination.
The sparkling new Lisboan Ask Me Centre will help you find accommodation and the staff is happy to dispense advice, maps and brochures. Smaller Ask Me Lisboan kiosks are dotted about the Rossio district and airport and their multilingual staff also have maps and brochures. Lisbon enjoys a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and very warm summers. Strongly influenced by the Gulf Stream it is one of the mildest climates in Europe. Lisbon is very close to the ocean and that brings windy and fast-changing weather, so you'd better bring a jacket or an umbrella with you, at least in winter, spring and autumn.
Go out at night to the central Bairro Alto, or 'High Neighborhood'. Just up the hill from Chiado, this is the place to go out in town. In the early evening, go to a fado-themed restaurant near the Praca Camoes, and head upwards as the evening goes on. If you're in Lisbon on the night preceding a Feriado or public holiday, you have to check this out. Tiny little streets which are empty in the daytime become crammed walkways which are difficult to get through. Finding a decent sleeping place in the center should not be a big problem. There is a tourist service center in the airport, where the nice ladies will book a room for you. Expect to pay between €45 and €60 for a double room and from €10 to €30 for a dorm or a shared room.

Hostel is not up to the standards Hostelsclub should have. Other guests are immigrants working in low-pay jobs instead of tourists. Rooms are windy and without heating. Illiterate staff (seriously!)

Good location and a GREAT apartment! Fully equiped kitchen, really nice backyard, washing machine free of charge. Only problem (BIG ONE) was the room we got-with just 1 window, that opened up to a shaft, with the downstairs restaurants ventilationsystem next to the window. No fans in the room, meaning that, even though we got a BIG fan (which we left there), we did not get any sleep for the whole week. The internet was really bad, and they did not fix it when we asked. But in a different room, and not in July-the hostel is perfect!!

This hotel is up a very very steep hill. we went with friends their room was ok ours was not it was tiny and the shower was broken off the wall so you had to use it as a hand held on so there was no control of it either hot or cold the toilet seat kept coming off. breakfast was a rip off.one of the good things was the roof were at night you could go and sit .

Luis Daniel From Mexico On November 30, -0001

I'm quite unsatisfied with both the hostel the service that Hostelsclub provided. I made a reservation to AWA Lisbon Hostel Imperial and when I got there I found out that the place was in fact overbooked and that they had no previous knowledge of my reservation. The hostel's owners called to a nearby hostel that luckily had available rooms. However, the owners of the hostel said that they considered that the money I paid in advance as payment for that service of finding me a place to stay... classy. I wrote an email to Hostelsclub explaining the situation and I was told that this is in fact a common practice in this kind of situations, i.e., that the 10% fee is not reimbursed if the hostel's administrators "provide" the client a similarly budgeted place to stay, relegating all responsibility to the hostel's administrators. So both, the hostel and Hostelsclub refused to reimburse money paid in advance for a service that was never given. One more thing: the hostel's address is mislocated in the map.
