The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and one of the rare Western European cities that face the ocean and uses water as an element that defines the city. Lisbon enchants travelers with its white bleached limestone buildings, intimate alleyways, and an easy going charm that makes it a popular year round destination.
The sparkling new Lisboan Ask Me Centre will help you find accommodation and the staff is happy to dispense advice, maps and brochures. Smaller Ask Me Lisboan kiosks are dotted about the Rossio district and airport and their multilingual staff also have maps and brochures. Lisbon enjoys a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and very warm summers. Strongly influenced by the Gulf Stream it is one of the mildest climates in Europe. Lisbon is very close to the ocean and that brings windy and fast-changing weather, so you'd better bring a jacket or an umbrella with you, at least in winter, spring and autumn.
Go out at night to the central Bairro Alto, or 'High Neighborhood'. Just up the hill from Chiado, this is the place to go out in town. In the early evening, go to a fado-themed restaurant near the Praca Camoes, and head upwards as the evening goes on. If you're in Lisbon on the night preceding a Feriado or public holiday, you have to check this out. Tiny little streets which are empty in the daytime become crammed walkways which are difficult to get through. Finding a decent sleeping place in the center should not be a big problem. There is a tourist service center in the airport, where the nice ladies will book a room for you. Expect to pay between €45 and €60 for a double room and from €10 to €30 for a dorm or a shared room.

Great staff! Dirty bathrooms. Take a taxi if you carry suitcase with wheels - that's generally a good idea in Lisbon. Computers available to use have weird OS. Google maps don't work on it properly or at least I couldn't figure it out.

I stayed here for 2 nights. In general hostel is not bad. I liked the location:next to the church and castle. Breakfast - nothing special, but tasty. Basic beds. Not bad place to sleep 1-2 nights. The best thing in the place is Ana, she is really welcoming. Only one person who is smiling there. Weak points: towels smell old and from the first moment it is giving you a bad impression; staff- when I arrived in the morning I was informed that check in is at 14:00, but the girl didn't want to let me in even to put my bag or use the washroom. Nice welcome, right? No one knows the city. The most popularly answer "i don't know". But what am I asking for if they even don't know the price for their towels ( which I found later on the back of the door). Atmosphere is also weak point. I stayed in 2 hostels before and I was lucky to see the real spirit of hostel. Staff was organizing parties, process of making friends, the trip which you will remember. Here: nothing. Beautiful living room is always empty. So, if you what a place with good price just to put your things and sleep this place is for you.

Very basic, the bathrooms were 'foggy', the staff was nice, but not well informed about things to do/see - or how to get tickets or which stations serve which directions. Since we were there in winter time, it wasnt that warm in the rooms though. As i said it was basic, not a fancy hostel. Just to sleep. I didnt see there a common room. I reserved the room, but I did not have access to it. The receptionist informed that there was a problem in the bathroom and there was no other option at the Residencial. They transfered me to another building with no security in the entrance (everybody from street can enter the building and surprise the guest into the stairs). Althoug the staffs of both residentials were extremely sympathetic, the price of daily reservation at the new Residential is inferior to the value that I paid at Residencial Saldanha and the security issue on the entrance were not satisfactory.
